I wouldn't really trust ebay. Looking at them they are all fakes. Those are not microsoft made and you can easily tell the difference when you play. Will throw off your game. Friend got one and it was terrible.

Only place that I've seen say they have real ones is on Amazon. They have Japanese models for $44! Or you can get regular black($20), green($33), or blue($50) controllers. I might pick up a black one since rubber on my sticks is falling off.

eBay..caddy hit me up on aim ill show u what to look out for

also, if u buy refurbished xboxes from gamestop youll get a controller with it. mine happened to come with a brand new (not sealed) s type that im using right now

and i still have a sealed S that im saving
and i still have a sealed Duke taht im saving

ok i decided to write a quick guide to buying controllers on eBay. i haven't bought any yet, but i creep and i'm waiting for the right priced controller. i was going to buy a sealed S, but i didn't know how to work eBay, and someone beat me to the bid.

for s types, make sure it's sealed, obviously, because you don't know what you're getting with a used controller. make sure it says microsoft xbox. if it mentions anything about "Non-OEM", it means Microsoft didn't make it.
you have to look at the picture of the packaging. http://cgi.ebay.com/2x-Xbox-S-Type-Controllers-GREEN-New-Sealed_W0QQitemZ120449208543QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVid eo_Games_Accessories?hash=item1c0b5510df&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 you can tell that's a fake....where's the Microsoft symbol? Where's the Xbox gem in the center of the controller?
another fake http://cgi.ebay.com/2-x-SLIM-BLACK-CONTROLLER-FOR-MICROSOFT-XBOX-SEALED_W0QQitemZ110433635169QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVid eo_Games_Accessories?hash=item19b65b8b61&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
another fake http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Blue-Game-Controller-Pad-S-Type-for-Microsoft-XBOX_W0QQitemZ350255119999QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo _Games_Accessories?hash=item518cd4fe7f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
99% of the controllers on eBay are fake. to find the real ones, i search "xbox controller S" or "xbox controller Duke", filter it by accessories then Xbox accessories.

those are the most common fake packaging that i see when i search for controllers on eBay, as i'm looking to buy a few more sealed controllers so i can play Halo for awhile.

This past Valentine's day, my girlfriend got me the last 3 s-type's at a local gamestop, and they've never had anymore. 2 blues and a black, which went with my newish green one that I've been using for a few months. I went ahead and retired the green for one of the blues, but I pulled it out again the other day while testing some maps and I'm probably switching back.

Nothing like a good controller. It's great too, the ones from Gamestop were basically new. One of my 2v2 partners just ordered a duke/fatty off amazon used/new, he said it was basically perfect, $10.

owned.

ebay and amazon and all of that are good but there is always the risk of it being some fake ass controller. getting the legit gamecube controllers is a bitch too.

my recommendation is see if there are any local old school game stores, you know the kind that sell SNES games and shit, most likely they would have some. just search online and call them before you drive out. there was this bad ass one near me called rhino games, fuckers had everything cheap as fuck - i got ff7 for like 15 bucks SEALED, wtf right? sadly, the disease known as gamestop bought them out and now they only sell the exact same shit as every other god damn gamestop!

anyway, i went to tallahassee before the memorial day lan in VA, mcdick's girlfriend's dog chewed through one of my s-type cords, i was just playing and it said please connect controller and im like wtf i look down and hes waggin his tail with a piece of cord in his mouth haha. we just searched up some local game stores took about 2 mins to find one that had s-types, sure enough was an old school store selling snes shit too.

Planet has a good point. A used game store with just about every system I've ever seen (guy was seriously selling atari cartdridges) just opened in my hometown, I was there last weekend and went specifically to check on controllers. They had 5 original boxes (1 green) sitting out and he went in the back and pulled out 4 or 5 controllers for us to see, all $15, all felt really good.

im sure compressed air would do the trick if dust were in fact the problem. i paint cars for a living so i have like 3 compressors here i use for that stuff, as far as i know you can buy compressed air in a can for keyboards and stuff, im assuming that would work just as good.

so i'd have to open up the controller by unscrewing the tiny screws and just blow a compressed air thinger into it?

Just searched and controller that ended 4 days ago is up again, guess guy didn't pay, or seller is scamming? He has 1000 things sold with 99.8% feedback, hopefully it's not a scam.

Oh well I'm in the lead right now with 2 hours left. Hopefully I can win this one! lol

if you wanna link me to the seller on eBay thru aim i can take a look at it...i promise not to bid, i don't need a 4th sealed S-type.
you can try setting your max bid up, that's what i had to do since i had class/was out when the biddings were ending.

I won it! Got it for $15.50!

Kind of clutched it out. Was sitting here and I remembered I was going to bid on it. So I quickly went to the auction and there was 58 seconds left. So I placed my bid and clicked enter and I won it! Some great timing I got. lol

I'm seeing a lot of fake ones like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Blue-XBOX-Game-Controller-Pad-S-Type-for-Microsoft_W0QQitemZ170394645219QQcmdZViewItemQQptZ Video_Games_Accessories?hash=item27ac4ff2e3

Has anyone tried these things?

Watch out for controllers made in China. Most have inferior sticks that are not compatible with original Microsoft controllers. You can usually find out if they are cheap knock offs by the length of the cord and whether or not they have the quick disconnect in the cord. (Original MS controllers have a 9+ foot cord and a disconnect)

One option is to buy duke controllers and use the cord and thumb sticks in your S type controller. Takes a little work, but it can be worth it.

Snagged one a legit one for $11.49 shipping included. I've tried putting the duke sticks in the S controller before; they don't fit entirely properly, you'd have to grind them down or something.

I have done it before, if I remember right you have to clean up the sockets on the controller and make sure the thumbsticks are pressed all the way in. They feel nice once you get them together. I like the rounded top sticks best. I might have a pic of it somewhere.
