Shit talking, I know it is a lot of fun but I think it needs to stop. It sounds wack and such but i consider the halo1 community a family now. Only a few are playing, so we should not create hatred amoung eachother. That is how we loose players. and even if they are not good players, they have the chance of becomming good. non of us started off 3 shotting or quick scopping. None of us first picked up the controller and learned how to double melee or random spawns. So even when you shit on the other team, have respect for them. Like i said about 90% of you will think it is whack but the shit talking should be kept to humor and humor only. I mean its one thing to joke with the players and T-bag them lol, or if you are on a mic on skype to yell at your team mates, but dont fight. fighting will result in a loss of players. The halo1 community needs to look at eachother as a family....
Is any one with me!? lol
.......... anyone!!?!?!?!

Preach on POPE. I agree 100% with what you say. PWN is here as a place for all halo 1 people including new players as well as old. Lets make everyone feel like a "family" as much as we can. Granted, smack talk is fun and part of every game but if you choose to do it just keep in mind that were here to bring people back to the game not make them stay away cause of someone making them feel horrible based on the way they play. Help em out if they need some help and work with em if they need it.

but it goes too far sometimes. It will go down to talking crap about where you're from. I am from alabama (i am not country or have a country accent) and some people will be pissed at me for doing bad and then start saying how stupid i am and it's because of where i'm from.
That is the kind of trash talking that gets to me the most.

Domino, if people talk shit about where you are from, put a different state as your Xbconnect location lol. and just tell them you are from a different state lol.
but really, how immature can those people be about talking shit about where your from. what noobs lol.
shit talking is different than smack talking. people can joke around. when i LAN all you hear is curse words and yelling at each other. for example if i snipe someone I will yell "FUCKIN RAPPED!!" but if i get sniped I will yell "FUCKKIN ASSHOLE!"
i mean thats just an example. but im not hear talking shit cause you missed a 3 shot pistol or a snipe. no way
Arileus, is cursing allowed on this site? i will cut it back if its not lol

i get so much shit for being a girl (bitch, slut, c-word, fat, etc) it's ridiculous, but it doesn't bother me at all, the people that are saying it are always a) insecure or b) nerds that play too much halo and need to get a job or go to schoool
people that shit talk over xbc need to grow up. i've had people say stuff to me at tourneys too, but most of the time it's not too too bad
i've confronted people about it before at mlgs and stuff, and the kids are always really embarassed, it's pretty funny.

it's cool i mean...kids can shit talk all they want behind a computer..but when it comes down to sayin shit in person, then it's a whole different story considering that they're liable of gettin cracked in the face...something that i've actually had the pleasure of doing.
It's a game..people win, people loose, people are good, people suck.
Shit talk amongst your friends thats fine.
But if youre lanning with complete strangers i kno most of you wouldnt have the balls to say anything since youre not behind a computer.
Get off them imaginary high horses kids.
No need for unnecessary crude humor taken across that borderline.

There really is a fine line. Nothing wrong with little jabs like in situations where somebody should of had you one way or another but you pulled it out, so you say a little something just to make sure they know. When somebody starts throwing personal insults out for no reason/yelling constantly it's passed that point.
I personally have never been much of a talker. I just played. The funny thing about people who talked a lot from my experiences is that the best way to deal with them is to just outplay them to the point that there getting visibly frustrated. They usually get real quiet and in some cases get pissed to the point where they start slamming controllers down an the like.
Back when I played CE consistently during it's height was when I was like a freshman/soph in high school and I know some shit talkers bothered me when I first went to some decent sized lans but eventually you just learn how to deal with them. Somebody doing that today wouldn't bother me at all but I'm nowhere near as good or play as much as I used to either.

Gotta agree with the whole: "Being a mature community" etc, etc. One of the biggest downfalls of the current gaming community of, say... Halo 3 is a blatant lack of class.
I mean half of the game is like playing dice anyways it's like people are calling you out for not rolling a Yahtzee on every snipe shot.
The more people that can have challenging, rewarding and friendly games the more people that will tag a long with this.
I've gotta say joining on the Halo crazy late Halo:CE really made me wish I had been around in the beginning I would love to see a revival of a game I'd never really got a fair go at. :)

Every rational person who has ever played Halo understands the difference between letting someone hear it when it's called for, and being an insufferable dipshit about it. And it's very clear what's what, there's no "grey area."
I don't care how good anyone is at H1, I'm not going to play with them if all they do is run their mouths.

Patch doesn't give a fuck what you think, nor does he or anyone else here care what anyone thinks. If anyone is playing halo 1 for money/fame/respect in 2009, they're probably really fucking bad.
People still play this game because it's fun and challenging and endlessly evolving, not because you have to log grueling hours playing a game that doesnt even necessarily give you the ability to do anything special... all for a chance to be TOM TAYLOR OMG!1!1!1
Please... just leave. The Halo 1 community doesn't have to tolerate huge jackasses, because none of us care how good you are if you're a dbag. Pk and zucco, anyone?

First of all, "Yogre", news flash - the present Halo 1 community is FULL of "dbag jackasses," and you'd have to have to be blind and deaf not to notice. Patch and many other people act like there is some spotlight on them for being good at a game that maybe six people are playing online at any given time. How, pray tell, does that warrant them having such a stuck-up attitude about something that doesn't matter in the slightest (hence the reference, nobody's getting sponsored for H1)? The Halo 1 community is supposed to be a family, and half the people who still play this game make me disgusted to be a part of this circle, let alone want to go the distance to be present at any sort of get-togethers.
Second of all, lurk moar. Because implying that I'm some kind of advocate for Halo 3 makes you look incredibly stupid.

This is exactly why MBGaming is still around and forums like pwnall and all other h1 forums have died. All of the good players are still checking h1 forums from time to time and have a lot of respect for each other. All of these new random kids that are trying to "Bring back Halo 1" are talking shit on old school kids who still dominate the world of Halo 1. We are keeping halo 1 alive and always will while you noobs are trying to "Bring it Back"
Patch dominates Halo 1 ... there are maybe a handful of guys who can still beat him, and everyone who has his back on these forums konws him in real life, and unlike you forum kids he is actually cool. When you are so good at something that your game speaks for itself you don't need to talk shit on forums you just go LAN and back it up with your gameplay.
Basically my point is this: Don't talk shit on peeps you don't know and can't compete with in the game. As far as shit talk goes it is an EPIC part of H1 and the game is more fun because of it - mainly because it's all meant to be in fun and not taken seriously.
After 8 long years people still don't get it.

Here's something to think about, being a class act is not just for people in the limelight. I don't talk shit about anybody who doesn't deserve it, much less talk needless shit when I'm kicking someone's ass at something that nobody will ever care about. I don't know if you H1 "badasses" remember this, but losing at H1 is almost as fun as winning in a non-competitive era, so why do you have fuck with the experience by being a bunch of idiots across the TV table?
Oh, wait! I know why! Because half of the H1 community is a bunch of thugs who can't have fun at something unless they beat their chest like a caveman after they win!
Shit-talking does not make H1 fun, H1 makes itself fun. And the sooner you grow out of the "H1 is for oldschool douchebags who run their mouths" mentality, the sooner this community might actually grow into something beyond a few basement LANs and one worthwhile gettogether per year. This elitist bullshit is pissing me off.

It's very simple, Patch.
I have heard from a number of people that you talk way more shit than is called for at any given time, and leave a slimy trail of arrogance whenever you're within a 50 foot radius of an Xbox.
I also notice that this is pretty much the norm in the H1 community.
I'm sick of it. And it needs to stop.
Yeah, I'm probably getting all of my frustration about the entire community out on one person, but I really don't care. I'm beginning to regret the years I've spent defending this game and the community that plays it. Frankly, it's not that great, and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to newcomers. Most unwelcoming, inhospitable group I've ever seen.
But nobody in the H1 community cares about that. It's just a little balled-up core of elitism where people think they're actually still playing for something. It's pathetic.
And for the record, I do not respond to shit-talk and it does not throw me off my game, but that doesn't mean the idea of it doesn't piss me off.

Your analysis of the halo 1 community is unbelievably skewed, to the point that im wondering how these ideas even came into your head. People who say shit talking is dumb shouldn't even be allowed to play the game. Shit talking is a skill that can give you the upper hand in any match. Winning over the mind automatically gives you the edge you need to win the game, no questions asked. I enjoy listening to the shit talking because it makes me laugh. People shouldn't take it that seriously because it's just a game that should be enjoyed to the fullest extent possible.

On the contrary, I would absolutely hope that anyone who subscribes to that kind of thing would keep to themselves. By ALL means, please go and play with Patch, and smile like a donut for him as he talks shit on players that he's obviously better than.
Oh shit, I might be a hypocrite, though. I talk shit in TPD because I'm better than everyone on the other side. But hey, I'm not IP-banned from MLGPro for being a complete cock, unlike a certain other person here.

Like I said, I don't have the time or the money to travel to Tornado Alley to play H1. Learning H1 is not that hard Yogi, nobody needs a "coach", but what they definitely probably don't find encouraging is somebody yapping their ears off every time they lose.
I'm sure you're all so kind and courteous to newcomers until you finally beat them at a LAN and then suddenly THEY'RE FUCKING BAD KIDS WHO SHOULDN'T EVEN SHOW UP AND SHOULD SELL THEIR XBOXES, HOLY SHIT WHY DON'T THEY JUST TAKE TWO WEEKS OFF AND THEN RETIRE BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING FAGGOTS WHO'LL NEVER WIN AT ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY'RE GENETICALLY PREDETERMINED TO SUCK ASS AT H1 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL it's okay though 'cause it's part of the game.
If you truly, honestly think that the "test" of who deserves to be in the H1 community is if they can handle shit-talk nonstop, then you and the rest of the H1 community are a bunch of arrogant fucks.
Don't try to paint shit-talking as a "natural facet of competition". One look at the way professional athletes carry themselves makes you look like a complete idiot for saying that. Shit-talking is what happens when players get frustrated and lose their composure, it's not a God-given right you receive for winning.
So you have proved, yet again, that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
I leave a slimy trail of arrogance when someone even mentions an Xbox. Also, for a person who doesn't like the idea of shit talk, you're doing a lot of it towards me. I'm sick of it. And it needs to stop.

i like some of your points cursed, but there are only a few times ive played h1 and been truly bothered by shit talk, and almost of them happened on xbc. there are some douche bags out there that fall under the category of shit talk which you are referring to, but i think at LANs it mostly disappears. if i am at a LAN and someone is throwing some truly hard insults at me, im probably going to have a word with them about it. sure some people shit talk but on the level you speak of? i've never experienced it.
however, there are a TON of douche bags on xbc, that do indeed, talk too much shit. it sucks being a new player, you get on, you play some dude who everyone probably knows, but hes on a fake and feels the need to let you know you are complete trash, etc. instead, that guy might say, hey man here is a timer, here is a link to the h1 beginners guide, etc...
all in all though, i think shit talk is lame when you do not know the other person, some people think otherwise. i don't like the idea of someone i don't know saying some retarded insult toward me followed by the worth kid. once people become acquainted well obviously joking insults are fine. if some guy in a store told you your shoes were gay, you probably wouldn't be too happy about it right? i have yet to encounter this severe level of shit talk at a halo 1 lan though, so i think cursed that your argument may be MOSTLY applied to xbc. i can remember very few times playing xbc against people and someone not talking shit. it amazes me how much shit someone can talk even after they lose, even when i never said anything but nice things to them!
and just to put it out there,
i think if patch talked as much shit as you say, he would have gotten into some sort of physical altercation by now. he was at the VA lan, and i played a bunch of games against him and he never said anything out of the way to me or my team mate. i don't know how nice of a guy he is, but he was nice to me. so, while i think your principles are good, i just think you may be arguing at some of the wrong people.

this is a dumb viewpoint, cause caring about the fact that potentially new players are getting owned, getting shit talked to them, and never getting back on cause the experience was so shitty is gay right?
isn't the point of this site a "revival" of the halo 1 scene?
no one is going to revive shit without new players. oh unless someone hosts a $5,000 tournament that doesn't have a website of course.

well lets say there is some dude that could potentially be good at halo but isn't really excited about it that decides to get on xbc and see what the fuss is about.
he plays a few games with good people, gets beat but also gets alot of tips such as timing and gets to team with a good guy for a few games, eventually he plays some more and becomes good and becomes a member of the community, as well as puts another host up from time to time.
or second scenario - he plays a game with you, you rape him, tell him hes fucking trash, call him fag. you don't offer him ANY tips, you just make it a miserable experience for him. now this is his first time on xbc, how great do the chances of him becoming good diminish after this? the first guy he plays h1 with is a total dick. whats to say that all halo players aren't like this? "fuck this im going back to call of duty" man it would be different if it were halo 3, where there is an endless sea of players, but h1 might not even break 1000 people that still play worldwide. we need build up our numbers. i was on xbc late the other night, and there wasn't a single h1 game up. don't you think this sucks? thank god the new maps are coming out, we might have a nice boost for a while.
the point im trying to make is, why the hell would you talk shit to someone then turn around and join a site trying to "revive" the game? its just hypocritical i think.
also, as cursed suggested, your analogy is ridiculous.
and mbgaming.com your website? i don't see an article there for your tournament, much less a page dedicated to it. thats basically like saying pwnall.com is your tourneys website. if you are as serious as you say (which i find highly unlikely) then at LEAAAAAAST make a frickin website. posting a thread on prophs forum does NOT count.

1) Why would i waste my time and make a website for my tourny? - it would just get kids that would talk about the tourny (XBC kids) and not show up.
1.2) Not my first rodeo.
2) That "Post" is all i need to get people that would actually come. - As you have found it.- Maybe you should spread the word.
3) My opinoin about it being gay how some kids cant take some trash talking is my opinoin, thats it, i never trash talk.

This thread just gets worse and worse. I can't even begin to think of what to respond with. It's getting THAT retarded.
If you're lanning and someone pulls a nasty play on you and tells you to 'get raped' and that makes you cry... then you probably need some social anxiety medication or something. If you're on THE INTERNET and someone says some shit to you that makes you cry... you need to get off the internet.
I've lanned and played xbc with a ton of good people in the past couple years. Nobody is like what's being described in this thread. They're all really nice people, internet or not. None of these people are actually going to tell a new player that they're garbage and should kill themselves etc. During actual lanning, it RARELY goes any further than 'rape' or 'get shit on'... and in 99% of cases it's because you're talking about something YOU did, not that the other person is bad.
If you're meeting assholes on xbc and getting all worked up about how elitist and mean the h1 crew is... wake up. It's the internet, and there are people like that in EVERY game, every forum, every community. It has nothing to do with h1.

why would you make a website? how about, so your tournament looks legit? i know many great halo players that don't use forums. they don't know who you are, how legitimate do you think this is? i definitely won't be showing up for your forum post tournament. i can't be the only one, im just the only one posting. im trying to help you... if you were honestly going to run a $5000 tournament, not making a website is ridiculous. you could get someone to make it for you easily. and obviously you'd make it back up in the participants. plus a website reaches out to other gamers. h3 guys that used to play h1 might see the website and be like 'oh ill play for 5 grand!' but if they are linked to your forum post, they will disregard it. if you want to do it right, make a website. if you had a convincing website with multiple pages with in depth info about all aspects of the tournament, then you would be off to a much better start. 5,000 dollars is alot of money, meaning once you get that high, you need a website for anyone to take you serious. if you said 500 bucks itd be different. 5,000 expects alot of people - its just too sketchy.

the halo1 circle... is that what everyone is complainning about? the h1 circle is small enough, but inside that already small circle, there are a handful of micro scopic circles lol...
those circles are filled of the ... plain and simple... better players.
why do they have those little micro scopic circle? because they don't want to play with people that get them spawned raped, dont time, and can't give random spawns, can't watch the little green triangle, and cant communicate with players...
that is why the goood players, play with good players...
for all the new or beginner players out there, our heart goes out to you because we want you all to get good, but we would prefer to play with good people over the 'soon to be good' players first.

Shit talking is a part of Halo. Especially when you can actually get into someone's head and make them play terribly. I have been told by AT LEAST 200 people over the course of my Halo career that they are going to beat my ass. Ranging from T2 to randoms on XBL or XBC. It's just plain fun.
But like Bonesaw/Patch said, if you are taking all this so serious you need to reevaluate for sure.

Anybody that was at the VA LAN Memorial Day weekend will tell you that I was probably one of the biggest shit talkers there, but it was all in good fun. At LANs, shit talk is funny, as long as it's in moderation and in the right circumstances. Taunting your opponents when you know where they are or things like that is funny, and I don't care what anybody says.
