Ok, so like I have stated a couple times before, I am not an H1 kid. I played it on LAN a few times before H2 came out, but H2 was when I found MLG and started playing competitively.

Now, with that said. What are some effective strafing techniques in H1? I know strafing has always been a huge part of Halo but I also know that because of the different game physics for each game it causes different strafes to be more efficient for one game or the other.

So again, what are some good strafing techniques for H1?

Videos, or picture emamples would be great!

Yea, I guess, seeing as only two posts have been posted in this thread that strafing is basically the same in all 3 games

They're are not the same in all three games. You can use the same strafe but some ARE better then others. In halo 2 you could do the fast side to side strafe with the occasional long on. That seemed to work best for me. Halo 3 depends on the range of your fight. Close better with a wide strafe. Far better with a tight strafe. Halo 1 is kind of the same way as halo 3 goes as far as the strafe.

The distance from you and your opponent is what decides the kind of strafe for the most part.

Some people however can hit certain strafes better then others. You just have to see what works. Go 1v1 game on lan and try different things. Practice what works. But always change it up! People learn fast....

But one thing you should never do in halo 1 is jump when in a pistol fight. Unless your point blank and that person has you beat. Other then that, DONT EVER JUMP IN A 1v1 PISTOL BATTLE!!!!

I just do a simple strafe. I sometimes crouch, but I ALWAYS die the second I do it. So don't really do that much.

Crouch can sometimes be really sick, you have to time it right; If you've been hit 2 times with the pistol you pretty much know the third shot is going for your head so, if you duck at just the right moment sometimes you can dodge the shot. Nastadon is right though it's something that should be done rarely so, when you do it, it is completely unexpected.

Jumping is for dodging rockets and grenades. Also, ducking an explosion is almost never a good idea because damage of explosives is based on proximity to the head.

to me, strafing is really an x-factor in halo. its just a matter of matching up, some people can own your strafe and some people that are just as good might not be able to hit you to save their life. just don't strafe in a solid line and don't jump. i dont see anything wrong with crouching, as long as you use it in proper moderation. crouching has saved me lots of times. sometimes you can do something crazy like stand still for a second in the middle of a strafe and it work. your aim will come into play more so than your strafe IMO.

throw a grenade then strafe behind a wall ... esp if you're off host haha

So think of it this way, the point of strafing is to move the oppositions aim off of your head. Strafe too short and they don't have to move aim at all. Strafe too far and they have a smooth glide and easy two to the chest and one to the crest. So its all about variance. Short short long etc but don't be too predictable. Remember Halo 1 actually took skill so it takes some time to get used to the game mechanics, the learning curve does not look like H2 or H3's.
