View Full Version : All out Halo 1 get together LAN/Tournaments

I say we callaborate a MASSIVE LAN/Tournament for Halo 1. My LAN Center will be opening in the new year and Im sure it wouldnt be a problem to set aside the new games for a single weekend.

We could get everyone from all around that still plays to come out for the entire weekend and just LAN CE all day.

Then we can do some tournaments too. 2v2, 4v4, FFA. All that stuff.

Now the only problem I see with this is that we arent buying original xboxs and of course we are going with today's accepted competitive TV style of LCD. But our monitors only halo VGA, DVI, and some have HDMI video ports.

So is there adapters of some sort for original xboxs for vga? Im sure there is.

Or would everyone be ok with playing on 360s?

Or would everyone be ok with bringing their own equipment?

Lets brainstorm and get this ball rolling because this could be an awesome and huge event if we did it up right!

EDIT!!!

Here is what I think we should do for equipment.

Equipment:

-8 Original Xboxs
-8 Tube TVs
-8 Copies of Halo CE

-8 Modded Xboxs
-8 Tube TVs
-8 Copies of Halo CE

So I figure that we have 8 regular setups and 8 modded setups and that would be good that would allow 4 games of 2 way splitscreen. 2 with regular Halo CE and 2 with the Modded maps.

After some research, I have found that there isnt a VGA cable for the Original xbox what so ever unless you make one yourself or get some exspensive converter.

So that means that we need tvs for this event. We have I think 6-8 Tubes. And I think we can buy more. And Im sure we could buy some original xboxs, finding them would be the hard part.

tube tvs blow for h1 if they're super tube-ey (is that a word?)
go to gamestop or another store and get a refurbed xbox; that's what i did and i'm having others do. go to gamestop.com first, search "refurbished xbox" and check store availability first before going out to the store. a lot of stores don't have them anymore, but the ones by me still do.
where is this lan center?

We are opening in the new year in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I figure it would be the perfect spot for this event because its a really central location.

i was referring to the bubble tube tv's, like the one that's sitting next to me that cuts off a few inches on both sides because it's shaped like an O
but yeah, tube tvs are good (i just googled it now i know what the fuck it is), as long as they're not cheapie ones.

oklahoma city sounds cool, good luck, i know all the lan centers in my area closed, but it seems like there's more people out that way.

i use my 22" viewsonic with VGA cables on 360 right now. When id rather be playing on my flatscreen 20" tube with an original xbox. I cant though my dad took the tv to his work and needs to sneak it out cause its not supposed to be there in the first place. My 22 only has 2ms of input lag, and its a monitor + genuine microsoft xbox360 cables are 0 lag so its very good overall.

Yea the viewsonics are good and all but people want to play H1 on original Xboxs so the Viewsonics wont work for that, At least not the ones we have so we would need to get people to bring equipment unfortunately.

Yea, if we have a little extra money I will see if my associates would be okay with buying some cheap flatscreen tubes and trying to find some original xboxs. If not like I said people will need to bring their equipment.

What about the new maps everyone is talking about? Dont you need modded xboxs?

I have 4 20" Flattys (Tube) and 4 mod boxes all with Halo loaded on them. I will be happy to bring them down if you need them for an event. Also you can use any regular LCD TV with a regular xbox you just need component cables to make them look decent. I have one converter for a monitor as well.

everyone that still LANs h1 should be very much used to hauling tvs and xboxs etc. my tv has been in so many different places i cant even begin to think up the number. i have carried tons of different tvs, of all kinds and different sizes. halo players might be the best group of tv carriers on the earth.

point is, dont be afraid to ask people to bring their stuff. LANs are fun, but its also a bit of work, and the effort needs to be shared among everyone. people know how it is these days.

This is very true, Halo players are very good when it comes to bringing equipment.

That would be great! Like I said when the event happens we will more than likely need people to bring all the equipment, we will be able to provide a good LAN spot but not the equipment for it unless we buy a few xboxs.

Now, On the subjuct of modding. How much does it cost to mod an Xbox? Do you need to buy a chip? or is it a soft mod?

Cool! Ill get on that as soon as I get an xbox. Ill tell my local H1 guys to do the same, lucky for them they didnt sell their OG Xboxs haha. I have at least 10 people here in Oklahoma that are down for this and I know there are a TON of out of staters that would be down too. How many people do you think we can get? Im hoping 40+

Planned well enough and properly advertised. Thats one thing Ive learned while opening this LAN Center. ADVERTISEMENT! haha. One good thing is that I have somewhat of a connection with MR. Walsh because of Kiaeneto sponsoring a few of our tournaments so if we can get him to go than Im sure he would help spread the word as well.

But basically, its gonna be up to the people from PWNALL to do the huge advertising for this event. Once we get a set opening date on the LAN Center, I will set a date for this event. I want to go all out on this and get a huge turnout. I really like the mission of PWNALL and want to help be apart of it. Even though I never got into H1 competitivly, I love the game and love what im learning about it.

I can bring 4-8 guys from KS. As far as modding goes it is free you just need to know how to do a soft mod.

I agree the sooner we have a set date, the better we can plan this thing. Though it is doubtfull I can make it. Really long drive from Ohio.

HxC_Raiider
10-23-2009, 08:55 AM
Its really not that long of a drive. like 9 hours. But yea. I will set a date, once we set a date on the LAN Center being open. I would much rather us have the LAN Center open that way we can just LAN 3 days straight.
