People who use the h1 timer program on their pc
People who think they're good when they use a pc timer.
cocky people who call you a random when that person isn't known. If he is known then he needs to go outside.
Hosts who think they are good and talk trash cause they beat someone with 100+ ping.
Crap like this makes me not want to even play xbc anymore. Too many cheating/cocky children ruining the fun.

i have like 4 talkers and pc timers no biggie but yea kids are rediculous now and days but whatever let them talk shit u should smack them in 100+ ping its fun haha

in quake everyone just counts in their heads. and in halo they have it so easy. it's so cheap when someone doesn't have to even think about it and has something telling them when things spawn. doesn't seem fair imo.

lol that is quake and this h1 there is also tons of sounds in quake unlike h1 t.

yea very true but i used to use and alarm clock any kinda timer will work so i means its not that hard to find one

sorry i left. i was just getting too frustrated. For some reason i just can't hit anyone anymore. i think that 4 month break just screwed me over too much. i'm ALWAYS hitting an inch to the left or an inch to the right of someone. so annoying.

Respawning is set up to start counting after you pick up the weapon. Not hard to count to 10 seconds for the weapons, or 25 seconds for health(not exactly sure what it is. Haven't played in awhile) after picking up a weapon. Halo 1 you'd constantly need to be counting for the whole game to know when stuff would be up since it spawns at the same time every time. Doesn't matter when it was picked up. People would be doing the dumbest shit since they would be mainly focusing on not losing count. If one side lost count and other side didn't then one team has control for the rest of the game. Think it's better to just use a timer.

well i can probably find a clock or something. maybe use my ipod stopwatch. The reason i cant use a pc timer is because i'm facing the opposite direction from my pc and i also have headohones on so i wouldn't be able to hear the timer beep.
They might not be better, but they're smarter. Timing will help them secure control over the map. Which will help them win, unless the other person has a consistent 3 shot and doesn't need to time. :p
i mean like the people who ONLY use rockets and they talk smack and say that you're bad. I know it's map control, but if they use the rockets 95% of the time then it's not really skillful.

Stop watch would work, long as you don't have it dim or shut off ever.

what's the time for powerups? 60 also?
i'm a magnet for rockets and nades. probably why i get frustrated so much. i'm always in the wrong spot at the wrong time. i'm the one who always gets hit by those random ass nades.

what's the time for powerups? 60 also?

-_-It's different for each map. Most people just run a countdown that loops 60 seconds since it's even. Will spawn at 30 seconds, 1 minute, 1 minute 30 seconds(Rat Race Camo, only map I can think of that uses this), 2 minutes, or 3 minutes for rare things(For the montage kids. Plasma nade spawn time. Or OS on Hang Em).

last game i played i did better than the host and the host boots be cause i didn't time....ridiculous.
yet another person ruining my fun...if you get booted from one game you might as well call it a night or unless you want to wait an hour for another host to show....

If you have your iPod right there and an extra set of headphones/speakers, you could use chaosTheory's mp3 timer (http://www.filefront.com/7145081/cTs-Halo-Timer/). I've been using it for years and I think it's excellent.
Honestly I feel that timing has become a part of the game, and has really added a ton of depth where there was just aimless running around before (or camping in a single spot the whole game waiting for a powerup to spawn).

timers take the randomness out of the game, if you dont like playing with timers it means you embrace the noob side of halo, which is running around not knowing when stuff is coming up, not having to worry about it.
rockets are an essential part of the game, if you dont like people using rockets simply kill them before or as they get them. they only get rockets if you let them. but you will quickly find that you cant touch anyone who knows what they are doing, because they are simply better, rockets have nothing to do with it. the battle in halo is GETTING the rockets, camo, overshield (and maintaining control of them), most likely the reason people are getting rockets over and over are because they are out playing you at every 2 minute mark. if it was as simple as just camping the rocket spawn until they came up and getting 4 gravy kills, then everyone could be good at halo.
most good players will make you work for everything, including your rocket kills should you get them. if you arent familiar with how h1 fully works (you can't fully understand it with the viewpoint you currently have), and you get rockets in a game, chances are you wont get all 4 kills with those rockets, most likely the other team will read you like a book and end up killing you some how, considering that they are good players.
when you play halo make it a point to time and get the rockets and power ups at every respawn, you will find that it is not so easy, and you will find that you have opened the door to where all the real thinking goes on in the game!

ive had this happen to me tons of times, get a noob and he goes positive and i go negative and im just furious and everyone thinks that i suck hard balls, but in reality there is only so much you can do by yourself when playing against 2 good people. ever tried getting camo on battle creek by yourself against a good team? its quite a bitch.

i was grabbing the powerups more than him. he was only timing rockets, so i would grab powerups and run to rocket room.

that is incorrect though, you definitely have to look at a pc timer. it tells you like 10 seconds (generally) before it comes up, and thats it. you have to look over to see the exact moment it comes up. talking timers count down every single second - 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 beepbeep
the only thing better about a pc timer is it tells you exactly what is coming up, talking timers its easier to lose track of an even or odd minute. but ive seen talking timers that say the name of every weapon/power up that is coming up and then count down from 10 for you.

read my earlier posts. i cant use a pc timer.
also it's like someone's holding your hand when using one. takes out the skill of actually looking at a clock or a stopwatch. you don't even have to think when waiting for a spawn. only thing that does is actually grabbing it, but knowing when to be there is a huge no brainer. it tells you in advance and when it spawns.

there is no "skill" involved in having to physically look at a timer. after playing long enough, even without a timer you generally know about when the power ups will respawn. a simple glance at your timer, be it PC, stopwatch, iPod, wall clock, whatever, takes less than a second and will only effect the game if you look at it in the middle of shooting someone.

you said you wouldn't be able to hear the "beep"....if you can't hear the beep with your headphones in, turn it down, it's too loud.
also, you can try to get a plain kitchen timer from radioshack or even the supermarket. Vash and other people had the same one i used to have-it counted up and down. i'd have it count down from an even minute (say 20:00) on most maps, and have it count down from a multiple of 3:00 on hangem (top powerup=3 minutes). it costs $5, you hae to actually look at the timer which sucks, but it's infinitely better than not timing at all.
or, like someone said earlier, use cT's timer on your iPod/mp3/whatever. as i see it, there's no excuse to not time, unless a) you dont have an mp3 player or b) you can't afford the $5-$15 to buy a timer

slip 1 iPod earbud in, playing cT's timer of course..put it between your ear and the big headphones. adjust volume as necessary so you can hear both the game & the timer.

Wow, this is a heated discussion haha.
Timing has been a big part of competitive Halo in all 3 games. The only thing that makes it any harder or different for Halo CE is the fact that there isnt a built in game clock that you can look at all the time. And there are mp3 timers for all 3 games, so using any kind of timer really isnt cheap at all and is part of the competitive world of Halo.
Once I get H1 again, I am gonna be all over some competitive XBC stuff, I just got Skype on my PC for my LAN Center's business meetings and then shortly after found out that that is how people communicate in H1 XBC! haha.
