Could someone recommend me a capture card that's good, around $50, easy to set up, and 100% compabitle with the 32 version of Vista?
People on mlg recommended me a few cap cards, but they're all discontinued.
I wanna be able to take my laptops to lans and cap, thanks!!

^^those are the best but hard to find
i have a pinnacle 710. it comes with the pinnacle moviebox ultimate. great quality.
It also has input and output so you don't need a splitter.
i would recommend using vdub to capture once oy pick your capture card. cause it provides the best quality, but if you use the pinnacle program then do mpeg2 and the highest bitrate.

those are both a little out of my price range, im willing to spend about $50. i don't care about quality, i'm just going to post h1 gameplay, i'm not going to make any fancy videos.

lol you don't have to make fancy videos yourself. you can send them to people who are willing to do it for you.

wow, the best buy i was just at apparently has the dazzle dvd recorder, but i couldn't find it or find anyone to ask. f my life. i'm gonna buy it at best buy, since if it doesn't work i can just return it there.
do i need a vcr? ideally i'd just like to hook up the dazzle cords to the tv.
thanks for all the help and the straightforward answers.

for that capture card you need an A/V splitter. ask for one at best buy or go to radioshack. you dont need a vcr

I got a Dazzle 90. Thing is decent and cheap!
Need a VCR or a splitter. I use a VCR so I don't waste HD space(and in case it drops/adds frames and fucks up the video)

lol but that's a pain going back through the tapes. i remember doing that back when i first started recording. used up a lot of tapes and some even wore out and lost great footage. They aren't too reliable. recording straight to HD is so much easier. cause you can quickly delete the game if you didnt get anything.

Whole recording is ruined!
Right now I need the VCR. My desktop inserts about 10 frames a second, which makes video slow down or speed up randomly. Throws everything out of sync. So I have to record on my laptop which works fine, but it doesn't record audio.
So I record audio on the desktop, video on the laptop then I combine them and make videos that way.

The only time i did was when my hdd was about to crash *not caused by recording*Mine just started doing it a few weeks ago. Didn't drop any frames, but it inserted a shit ton. My HD has been acting funny recently though... I got an external shortly before that and backed up everything. Maybe that's why?

do you record to your external? it could be because it cant keep up with the USB transfer along with the hdd write speed.
and does your hdd click every now and then? mine started to do that then eventually stopped working all together.

I have 2 drives in my PC, and tried both of those and it was inserting frames. Then I tried the external and it still was failing. Which is mainly why I moved everything to the external cause I only had like 10 gigs left on my F drive. But now I got 230 gigs free it still does it. No idea what's wrong. More convenient on my laptop though, just wish I had a sound driver.

go to the manufacturer's website and search for your model number then download the drivers for it.

ok, so sic and i got a capture card, dazzle dvd recorder, so i could cap the lan at sic's
we got a bunch of cords for it-we got the cords that some review recommended to get on bestbuy.com:
Game System and AV Cables that come with it
3 AV Splitters (1 male 2 female) - i found quality ones for $3.18 each
1 Dual Sided AV Cable - about $10
could someone tell me what to do with these? i left the capture card at sic's house, but i guess no one hooked it up after i left saturday.
and also, apparently the tv's we played on didn't have a video output or something.
i wanna be able to set this up for next time so i can cap games.
